Montäzh Performing Arts Company was created in October of 1998 when fellow dancers Michele Byrd-McPhee and Crystal Frazier came together to discuss their frustration with limited performance opportunities for female hip-hop dancers in the Philadelphia area. Montäzh is a Philadelphia-based, all female hip-hop dance company.

Mission
The mission of Montäzh Performing Arts Company is to expand Hip-Hop dance culture beyond its traditional roots as a male dominated art form in the Black and Hispanic communities. Montäzh PAC is dedicated to preserving and redefining women’s roles in the Hip-Hop culture. Montäzh PAC exists to develop and provide women with positive roles that are present and represented within the Hip-Hop dance community.
Vision
Purely by its existence, Montäzh PAC addresses the misogynic mindset that plagues the hip-hop community. We train and educate women in the foundation of Hip-Hop movement, offer opportunities to perform dance, in addition to providing women with access to the hip-hop dance community An interdisciplinary company (incorporating spoken word, video, & drama), Montäzh PAC’s combination of dance & art is a soulful union of works that create a new dimension for women in the world of hip-hop performance! Montäzh captures the depth and diversity of the existence of women in hip-hop dance while representing the Philadelphia community in its cultural richness and unity. The company brings together genres of dance redefining what is known as hip-hop dance. Labeled “one of city’s juiciest melting pots” by Philadelphia Weekly, the company provides a positive presence of women in the hip-hop culture and community.
